What is the Immersion Programme?

Programme Description

The Immersion Programme is a unique opportunity for foreign teenagers (aged 13-17) to experience Irish culture and language firsthand. Students live with an Irish host family who have a teenager of a similar age and fully immerse themselves in their daily life and activities, thus benifiting from full linguistic immersion.

Programme Includes

• Full support of SK Language Programmes during the stay.

How it works

During the Immersion Programme, students will stay with an Irish host family for 2, 3 or 4 weeks. The host family will provide a comfortable and safe home environment for the students and include them in their daily routines, such as meals, shopping, and leisure activities. This allows students to experience Irish culture and improve their language skills through immersion.

Location

Students may be placed all around Ireland but not in the major cities. Most families live in a rural location where students are less likely to meet others speaking their mother tongue. We mainly place students in counties Wicklow, Wexford, Carlow and Mayo.

How long does the immersion programme last?

Students in the immersion programme typically stay with host families for 2, 3 or 4 weeks, however, a personalised stay duration may be created upon request.

When does the Immersion Programme start and end?

The Immersion Programme runs during Summer. In 2023, the Immersion programme will run from the 7th of June until the 23rd of August.

Will there be other students staying with the same host family?

Other students of a different nationality may be hosted by the same host family during the Immersion programme. We will always ensure that you are aware of all members staying in the home during your childs stay.

Can parents communicate with the host family while their child is in the immersion programme?

We prefer for SK Language Programmes to be the intermediary between host families and the student’s families, however, exceptions are made to give the student’s families peace of mind.
